I couldn't place blocks and got the msg “action prevented by easy place mode.” but in the options easy place first, easy place hold enabled and easy place mode are set to true. Go to appstore, update reddit, restart reddit, go to r/place and click om the banner on top, or click the place logo on the top of the home page. Watching the pixels a turn white and listening to. You may place a pixel upon it, but you must wait to place another.
You can still place pixels but only with very limited colors (previous years it was 1 color, this year it started with greyscale and after maybe 30 or 40 minutes in went down to only white). R/place was created to examine what happens if you only let individuals make a small contribution at a time, so that they must work with others to build anything significant. Individually you can create something. There is an empty canvas.
